What is Simeon Rice’s Net Worth?
Simeon Rice is a former American football player who has a net worth of $20 million. Simeon Rice played defensive end in the NFL for 12 years and was a multiple time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Simeon James Rice was born on February 24, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois. He became interested in football while playing pickup games with his brother in their neighborhood, and their father always knew Simeon had the physical gifts to play the sport at a high level. So when it came time to attend high school, his parents sent him an hour away to Mount Carmel High School on Chicago’s south side. The all-boys Catholic school had a history of winning state championships and was a big recruiting point for the University of Notre Dame.
Rice started out at running back but was soon moved to tight end and defensive end before his junior season. He didn’t see much action in games, but he broke out during his senior season in which he realized he was better suited for defense. Simeon got better with each game, and in the state championship game had a sack that caused a turnover giving Mt. Carmel the momentum for a come-from-behind win.
Simeon Rice enrolled at the University of Illinois where he was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year in 1992. The 6-foot-4, 259 pound defensive end won Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1994 and was a First-Team All-American in 1994 and 1995. He was also the recipient of the Jack Lambert Trophy in 1995.
With the third overall pick in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft, Simeon Rice was selected by the Arizona Cardinals. In his first eight out of 10 seasons in the NFL, Rice had at least 10 sacks, and in three of those seasons had at least 15 sacks. He played for Arizona from 1996 through 2000 when he signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent. It was with Tampa Bay that he became a Super Bowl champion when the Buccaneers defeated the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII. In 2007, Simeon played eight games for the Denver Broncos and two games with the Indianapolis Colts. He sat out the 2008 season and signed with the New York Sentinels of the United Football League in August of 2009.
In all, Simeon Rice was a three-time Pro Bowler (1999, 2002, 2003), First-Team All-Pro (2002), two-time Second-Team All-Pro (1999, 2003), the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (1996), and NFL forced fumbles co-leader (2003). He finished his NFL career with 122 sacks, 25 forced fumbles, 5 interceptions, and 35 passes deflected.
