LiAngelo Robert Ball was born on November 24, 1998, in Anaheim, California, to LaVar Ball and Tina. Both parents were former college basketball players. As a youngster, LiAngelo often played basketball against older opponents and competed against his brothers, Lonzo and LaMelo. LiAngelo attended Chino Hills High School where he played basketball for four years and attracted national attention along with his brothers due to their father, LaVar, who grew into a media personality in 2017. Ball was supposed to play his college basketball for UCLA but was involved in an incident in China where he was accused of stealing sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store.
The 6-foot-5 guard and small forward left UCLA and signed with Prienai of the Lithuanian Basketball League. LiAngelo Ball joined the Los Angeles Ballers in the Junior Basketball Association which was founded by his father LaVar Ball. He won the JBA championship and was named JBA Finals MVP, All-Star, and All-Star Game Co-MVP in 2018. LiAngelo Ball joined the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA G League in 2020. LiAngelo signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons In late 2020 but was waived before the start of the 2020-2021 season. In the summer of 2021, he was invited by his brother LaMelo to work out with his team, the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets staff was impressed by LiAngelo, and it earned him a spot on their Summer League team. He played well in his summer league debut, hitting five three-pointers in 16 minutes and was signed by the Hornets in October 2021. However, he was waived the next day. Ball was selected by the Greensboro Swarm 14th overall in the 2021 NBA G League draft, and he scored 22 points in his debut. He once again joined the Hornets for the NBA Summer League in 2022, and in September he signed another non-guaranteed contract with the team. He was waived in October 2022. Ball then rejoined the Greensboro Swarm roster for training camp.
