Eddie Jordan is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player who has a net worth of $8 million. Eddie Jordan, not to be confused with the Eddie Jordan who is a Formula 1 driver/entrepreneur, played in the NBA from 1977 through 1984 and served as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Wizards, and Sacramento Kings. He also coached three years at Rutgers University. Most recently, he was an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets.

Early Life

Edward Montgomery Jordan was born on January 29, 1955, in Washington, D.C. He was a shooting guard who played at Archbishop Carroll High School. Jordan played his college basketball at Rutgers University where he was named East Regional MVP in the 1976 NCAA Final Four. During his senior season, Jordan was named honorable mention All-America while setting all-time school records in assists (585) and steals (220).

NBA Playing Career

With the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 1977 NBA Draft, Eddie Jordan was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound shooting guard played for the Cavs in 1977 and then for the New Jersey Nets from 1977 to 1980 and the Los Angeles Lakers from 1980 to 1983 where he was a member of the 1982 NBA World Championship team. Jordan played for the Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers in 1984 before retiring from the game.

Over his seven-year career, Eddie Jordan averaged 8.1 points per game, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals.

Coaching Career

As a coach, Eddie Jordan started as an assistant at Boston College from 1986 to 1988. He was an assistant coach at Rutgers from 1988 to 1991 and then was an assistant for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings from 1992 to 1997. Jordan was the head coach of the Kings from 1997 to 1998. He was an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets from 1999 to 2003. Jordan was head coach of the Washington Wizards from 2003 to 2008 and of the Philadelphia 76ers from 2009 to 2010. From 2012 to 2013 he was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan served as head coach at Rutgers University from 2013 until 2016. Most recently, he was an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets during the 2017-2018 season.

Eddie Jordan was the head coach of the 2007 NBA All-Star Game for the East team as Flip Saunders was ineligible due to coaching the team the year prior.

Contracts and Salary

In 2003, Eddie Jordan signed a four-year contract to become the head coach of the Washington Wizards worth a little more than $3 million per year.

While making $1.15 million annually to coach at Rutgers University, in 2016 Jordan saw a pay raise to $1.45 million because of a 50% raise in the amount of guaranteed compensation added to his base pay. Upon his firing, the program owed Jordan a buyout of more than $2.1 million subject to offset from a future job.

Personal Life

Eddie Jordan was married to Charrisse Jackson from 1997 until their divorce in 2019. Together, the couple has five children; one daughter and four sons.
