His performance earned him a spot on the NCHC All-Rookie Team. Tyson began his professional career with the Colorado Avalanche. He made his NHL debut with a 2–1 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues. Tyson scored his first NHL goal in Colorado’s 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild. After that, he attended the Avalanche’s training camp. After missing eight games due to a lower-body injury, he soon left the NHL.

During the 2019-2020 season, he scored his first hat trick against the Tampa Bay Lightning. In a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he also had a multi-point game.
