He was born on August 16, 1996, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Dressel is the third child of his parents out of four, with his father being a veterinarian. His siblings, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Sherridon, all competitive swimmers. In addition to attending Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida, Dressel trained with the Bolles School Sharks in Jacksonville. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 2018. His YouTube channel was launched in October 2011.

At the 2012 United States Olympic Trials, Dressel was the youngest male swimmer and was ranked 145th in the 50-meter freestyle and 152nd in the 100-meter freestyle. At the 2013 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai, he won six medals, including gold in the 100-meter freestyle, breaking the Championships record.

He was also the youngest swimmer in history to break the 19-second barrier in the 50 yard freestyle at the Speedo Winter Junior National Championships in 2013. He won the 2015 NCAA title in the 50-yardfreestyle during his freshman year at the University of Florida.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Dressel won his first gold medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay. At the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, he won all three of his individual races and won his first relay national title.
